How to Look After Your Freshly Delivered Flowers

Contemporary flowers and beautiful bouquets make a wonderful addition to any room of the home, but once your cut flowers arrive, it’s important to give them the care and attention they need in order to flourish. Given the proper care, your bouquet is sure to last longer and keep your home looking great!

Peony Flowers

Of course, it’s also worth bearing in mind that different flowers and plants will require different care, so if you have any doubts, make sure to double check in order to guarantee you are able to provide the best possible level of care for your new bouquet. We have put together a handy guide to help you keep your freshly delivered contemporary flowers looking their best once they arrive at your home.

Packaging

Once you have received your wonderful bouquet or flower arrangement, the first step is to remove all the packaging. Take care when doing so, however, as the last thing you want is to damage delicate blooms when they’ve only just arrived. If you have ordered a hand-tied bouquet in a specific arranged shape, the best course of action is to avoid removing this until the flowers are in the vase otherwise you may risk losing the shape or design of the arrangement.

Preparation

Before placing your contemporary flowers into the vase, you will need to cut approximately 2-3cm off the stem in order to allow the flower to take up water. It’s best to cut the stems at an angle to maximise the surface area the flowers can drink from. Similarly, at this stage, you should remove any leaves that will sit below the waterline in the vase to avoid the leaves becoming mouldy and keep your bouquet at its best for as long as possible.

Vase

Prepare your favourite vase for the flowers by ensuring it is clean and filled with fresh water – and flower food, where appropriate. It’s also a good idea to check that the vase is the right size for the flowers – too small and the arrangement may look cramped or risk flowers toppling from the vase; too large and the bouquet will be dwarfed by the vase and blooms may risk being submerged in the water.

Location

Once you are happy with the arrangement of flowers in the vase, you will need to find it a home where you can enjoy the look and scent of your bouquet. Somewhere at room temperature and out of direct sunlight is best, and if you have pets or small children, make sure that it is placed firmly out of harm’s way!

Ongoing Care

In order to prolong the lifespan of your flowers, ideally, you should recut the stems every 2-3 days. Similarly, it’s important not to forget to regularly change and top-up the water in the vase for freshness.

Here at Flowers Buy Delivery, we provide a wide range of contemporary flowers, ranging from a freesia bouquet to an orchid arrangement. Similarly, with UK-wide next day delivery options, your beautiful flowers will be at your door before you know it!
