Aeschynanthus is the biological name of this lovely trailing plant and it is also known as Lipstick Plant, Lipstick Vine and Basket vine. This pretty plant has emerald green heart shaped leaves that trail and produce plum pods with cherry red flowers grown in the shape of a tubular cup which resembles lipstick and that is where it gets its most common name from. It is a tropical plant native to Southeast Asia and has around 150 species.
Lipstick plants require to be watered twice a week but must be well drained, we advise allowing the soil to dry between watering, but be careful as too much water and the plant will shed its leaves. Bright indirect sunlight is best but not enough sun will result in falling leaves and less flowers in summer. To enjoy the Lipstick plant you must keep it in warm conditions as it wont fair well in a cold climate.
